The Hair Loss Risk test
predicts hair loss for men or women. The objective of the test is to
identify through genetic screening male/female pattern hair loss prior to
the onset of symptoms, so that treatment can be initiated at a time when
intervention has a greater likelihood of success.
Why take the Hair Loss Risk test?
| |
The test determines the statistical risk for hair loss or thinning
By the time hair loss is noticeable, almost 50% of hair could be gone .
The only FDA approved treatments preserve EXISTING hair, not re-grow lost
hair.
The test will help predict hair loss BEFORE there is any visible hair loss |
What will the Hair Loss Risk test tell MEN?
| |
The test checks for the presence or absence of a specific variation in the
androgen receptor gene.
Men who test negative have an 85% chance of not going bald by the age of 40.
Men who test positive have an 60% chance of going bald by the age of 40. |
What will The Hair Loss Risk test tell WOMEN?
| |
The test provides women with a score, called the CAG repeat score.
A smaller CAG test score is associated with a higher risk for significant
hair loss.
A larger CAG test score is associated with a lower risk for hair loss.
Only 2.3% of women with a low CAG test score do not develop female pattern
hair loss. |
DNA Dimensions offers metro Detroit consumers the first test available to
assess the genetic risk for developing pattern hair loss. Once our customer
knows his/her predisposition to hair loss, he/she may choose to discuss
medical options with his/her own doctor who can develop a plan to monitor
and treat early hair loss, or he/she may elect a private consultation with a
genetic counselor and a personal evaluation with a physician from our lab.
The consultation session will provide important information on all medically
viable solutions for hair loss, including hair transplantation, FDA-approved
medications, and laser therapy.
For men, the Hair Loss Risk test checks for a genetic variant found in more
than 95% of men who are bald. Men with this genetic variant are at 60% risk
of experiencing baldness by the age of 40. The test also checks for a less
common variant of the same gene, that indicates a greater than 85%
likelihood of not going bald before the age of 40.
For women, the Hair Loss Risk test provides a score, called the CAG repeat
score. A smaller CAG test score is associated with a higher risk for
significant hair loss while a larger test score is associated with a lower
risk for hair loss. Nearly 98% of women with a small score suffer from hair
loss. These women may wish to consult with a physician specializing in hair
restoration, who can develop a plan to monitor and treat hair loss early.
Such women may be good candidates for medication, especially if treatment is
started early. In contrast, women who have a larger CAG test score can be
reassured that they are at low risk for significant hair loss. This avoids
unnecessary concern or expense over premature hair loss.
Two FDA approved medications to combat hair loss, minoxidil and finasteride,
are more effective at stabilizing hair loss than stimulating re-growth, so
early prediction of hair loss makes it more possible to save hair. The Hair
Loss Risk test provides an opportunity for early medical intervention prior
to visible signs of hair loss, allowing our customers a chance to retain
their hair.
The test is simple and painless. It provides a confidential analysis of the
genetic variations related to hair loss which then enables our customers to
make informed decisions after discussing the results with a qualified
physician, and before hair loss becomes advanced. |
